Author and now-retired naval officer James Feldkamp takes a closer look at some of what are expected to be next year’s top travel destinations.

With overseas vacations on hold for many this year amid the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, those with a passion for international travel-such as author, cybersecurity expert, and now-retired naval officer James Feldkamp-are already looking forward to what could be in store in 2021 and beyond once current restrictions are lifted.

“With trips to far-flung destinations largely on hold this year as we ride out the ongoing global health crisis, many of those with a passion for international travel are eagerly looking forward to what may be in store, vacation-wise, 12 months or so from now,” says James Feldkamp, speaking from his home in Arlington County, Virginia.

Among the destinations currently forecast to top the travel charts in 2021 are Mexico, the Maldives, and the Seychelles, according to James Feldkamp. This, he says, is always to be expected. “In 2021, however,” Feldkamp reveals, “it’s further forecast that we’ll see a sharp rise in travel to places not previously considered by many as traditional holiday destinations.”

Experts from the travel industry, James Feldkamp reports, are already pointing to places such as Namibia and Patagonia as potential top travel destinations for vacations next year, by individuals, couples, and families alike. “Southernmost South America as a whole is expected to be more popular than ever,” suggests the author and retired naval officer, “as are a variety of African destinations.”

Norway and Iceland have also seen an increase in people searching for alternative vacation opportunities to take next year. At the same time, in the Mediterranean, Portugal and Greece are expected to see higher numbers of visitors than ever in 2021, according to travel industry experts. The United Arab Emirates, it’s thought, will remain popular, as will the United States of America and Canada, with Egypt also expected to see a new surge in visitors during 2021 and beyond, they say.

A subject matter expert at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., cybersecurity sector professional James Feldkamp himself is a keen world traveler, with sailing and wine tasting among his biggest passions in life. “Following restrictions put in place this year amid the pandemic, it’s widely thought that travel will make a particularly triumphant return in 2021,” he suggests.

Luxury trips, longer vacations, and opportunities to explore new countries-and even whole new continents-are all expected to be popular next year, James Feldkamp believes. “I think many people will stop taking their vacations for granted,” says the cybersecurity expert and wine connoisseur, “as reflected in the suggestion that trips to Africa, Patagonia, and Scandinavian nations such as Norway, for example, will be more popular than ever.”

James Feldkamp is, he says, yet to decide upon his next vacation, but is reportedly looking forward to embracing his love of sailing and wine tasting once again wherever he ends up, pointing, perhaps, towards a trip to the Mediterranean. “We’ll see!” adds Feldkamp, wrapping up.
